Bunnell Elementary School had received a Flagler Sportfishing Club ‘kids4reel’ donation of $825 in May 2022 to fund an academic year’s worth of monthly fishing excursion for qualified youths. FSC ‘kids4reel’ financial donations were made by many FSC members including: Bill Moore, Deb Marinco, Dave Genk, Jeff Murphy, J. Ginnela, Howard Creese and Tom Fiorentino.
In addition, many FSC members donated ‘slightly used’ rods/reels which are used during these youth fishing excursions.
A big THANK YOU to all of our contributors!! Rest assured, your kindness is paying off – just look at the photos of the student fishing excursion on Friday, August 26, 2022!
Bunnell ES Science/Math Teacher, aka Coach, Tom Westly and Dean, aka Coach, Rob Kendall selected ten 5th graders to learn how to fish for a full day of fun at Herschel King Park. They were joined by FSC members, Betty and Chris Christian, as well as Jeff Murphy, who brought lunch for all.
The junior anglers had a blast; learned a ton; and may have gained a passion that will last a lifetime. Many caught fish for the very first time. The tally included some beautiful redfish, flounder, mangrove snapper, catfish and more! Look at the smiles on the kids’ faces – amazing!
‘kids4reel’ also donated some Flagler Sportfishing Club shirts for the ‘coaches’ which were really appreciated. The Junior Anglers were educated about fishing, the habitat, safety, conservation and ethical practices.
