April Fishing Report

Inshore
For the anglers fishing the spring classic tournament fish the creeks and flats for redfish, trout and flounder. Try floating a live shrimp or mud minnow under a cork for the redfish and trout. For the flounder use a mud minnow or a finger mullet on a 1/4 oz jig head for the bigger flounder. For the artificial anglers try topwater at first light then switch to your favorite jerk bait or paddle tail lure.

Surf and inlet
There should be some nice redfish, trout and flounder at the inlet for the tournament anglers that don’t have a boat. Use live mud minnows or mullet on a knocker rig or fish finder rig. Use about a 2 oz weight to keep it at the bottom. Pompano, bluefish and Spanish mackerel should start moving in, use gotcha plugs and gold spoons for these species.

Nearshore
April can be a good month for king fish and cobia. If you can find diving birds, pogie schools or manta rays, you have a good chance of catching these bruisers. For kingfish troll a live pogie or your favorite trolling lure. If you do find the manta rays approach slow and look for the cobias swimming with them and cast any live bait or big paddle tail in front of them.

Good Luck and Tight Lines!!!
