School Programs

‘kids4reel’ has actively supported Schools that offer fishing programs. This can include Elementary, Middle and High School venues.

As an example, ‘kids4reel’ recently donated funds to the Bunnell Elementary School to support their Student Fishing Initiative. The donations were provided by Club Members to Tom Westly, Math & Science Teacher and Coach Kendall, School Dean. Tom Westly spoke on behalf of the school and appreciated this donation which will be utilized over the next year to pay fishing expenses for the selected youths including bait, tackle, rods/reels plus other associated gear. Science, safety, conservation and fishing regulations will be emphasized to the students at school and during their fishing outings. Youth/teen school programs such as this positively influence social, emotional learning (SEL) skills.

On May 5, 2022, FSC ‘kids4reel’ proudly made a $825 donation to the Bunnell Elementary School in a ceremony at the school. Donations were made by some FSC members to help support a student fishing club initiated by Coach Tom Westley. The Coach indicated that the funds will be used to help pay for bait, tackle, rods/reels plus other gear and expenses. Science, safety, conservation, and fishing regulations will be emphasized to the students at school and during Club fishing outings.

Future School Program initiatives under review include:

  • ‘kids4reel’ educational program integration into school PE classes
  • Alignment of ‘kids4reel’ youth clinics with local schools
  • Providing ‘kids4reel’ member-donated, good working order, pre-fished rods/reels to participant school programs
  • Expansion beyond elementary schools to middle/high schools for financial donations to support youth fishing initiative
